Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence has strongly condemned the mosque attack in Limassol, South Cyprus.

Issuing a written statement the Turkish Ministry of National Defence said the Turkish Armed Forces continue to protect the rights and interests of the country, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the Aegean and the Mediterranean without compromise.

It also stated that mutual efforts are continuing for the continuation and development of the positive atmosphere that has developed recently between Türkiye and Greece.

Also touching upon the recent mosque attack in South Cyprus the statement read, “On August 26, we strongly condemn the attack on the Köprülü Hacı İbrahim Aga Mosque in Limassol. Such acts of hatred, which pose a threat to Muslims, the Islamic world and the common values of all people, have once again demonstrated how justified and realistic the vision of a two-state solution in Cyprus.

The statement concluded by noting that “As a guarantor state, Türkiye will continue to guarantee peace, tranquillity and security in Cyprus within the framework of international agreements and legitimate rights arising from international law.”
