Türkiye went to the polls on Sunday to determine its president and the new members of parliament who will serve for the next 5 years. Following the completion of the voting process, which ended at 5pm, the counting and casting of the ballot papers for the Presidential election was started.
A run-off between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his main challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu looks increasingly likely, after Türkiye’s most closely fought election in decades.
The Chairman of the Turkish Supreme Election Board Ahmet Yener announced in his latest statement on Monday morning that 99.4 percent of the ballot boxes had been opened.
Accordingly, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s vote rate was 49.40 percent, Presidential Candidate Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu’s vote rate was 44.96 per cent, and Presidential Candidate Sinan Oğan’s vote rate was 5.29 per cent.
Also providing information about the parliamentary elections earlier, Yener said, “Our political parties that have passed the seven per cent required threshold are the Justice and Development Party, the Nationalist Movement Party, the Re-Wealth Party and the Great Unity Party in the People’s Alliance; the Republican People’s Party and İYİ Party in the Nation Alliance; the Greens and the Left Future Party and the Workers’ Party of Türkiye in the Labour and Freedom Alliance.”
