The Turkish Foreign Ministry reacted to some sections of the European Union’s annual conclusions on the enlargement process.
The Ministry emphasized that the legitimate concerns and justified policies of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) were ignored in the Cyprus-related section of the conclusions.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a written statement on the annual conclusions of the European Union General Affairs Council on the enlargement process of the Union.
In the statement, while the emphasis on Türkiye’s candidate country status and key role in the conclusions was considered as a correct and realistic approach, the Ministry reacted to the section on Cyprus.
It said that it was seen that the unrealistic, unlawful and maximalist views of Greece and the Greek Cypriot Administration of South Cyprus were repeated in the Council conclusions and added: “The legitimate concerns and justified policies of Türkiye and the TRNC were ignored.”
“We remind that the EU acting as the spokesperson of the Greek Cypriot side and ignoring the inherent rights of the Turkish Cypriot people is the biggest obstacle to reaching a solution on the island,” the statement concluded.
