The Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu has said that work on bringing electricity to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) from Türkiye via cable has speeded up.
“The power cuts which the people are fed up of and which hurts economic production in the country will become history,” he said.
In a written statement on Sunday, the Minister of Economy and Energy Olgun Amcaoğlu said that the interconnectivity project with Türkiye speeded up following the recent visit to the TRNC by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
He said that the Joint Energy Working group formed in cooperation between Türkiye and the TRNC had nearly completed all its work following six years of planning.
Amcaoğlu added that the interconnectivity system that will be used in the project was the most common system used around the world.
“This project once completed will drastically boost the TRNC’s energy capacity both in terms of quantity and quality. The interconnectivity will improve frequency standards, supply security and will also expand the TRNC’s renewable energy production,” he said.
The Minister of Economy and Energy also said that the energy and electricity problems experienced in the country will become a thing of the past, with the public and the economy no longer having to suffer from power shortages and outages.
“As the project to bring water to the TRNC via a suspended pipeline from Türkiye was dubbed the ‘Project of the Century’ this will become the ‘Second Project of the Century’”, Amcaoğlu said.
