Türkiye’s National Security Council (MGK), chaired by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, convened to address the escalating tensions in the Middle East, with a focus on Israel’s increasing military actions. The primary topic of discussion was the growing conflict between Israel and Iran, alongside Israel’s strikes on Lebanon and Gaza.
In a statement issued after the meeting, the National Defence Council called on the United Nations Security Council and other relevant countries to act swiftly to prevent further violence.
The Council emphasized the importance of a ceasefire in Gaza and the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.
Diplomatic efforts in this direction were also discussed.
The meeting also touched on other critical issues, including the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine and developments in Cyprus.
The council’s post-meeting communiqué highlighted Türkiye’s commitment to national unity and security.
It reaffirmed the nation’s determination to counter threats from terrorist organizations, both domestically and abroad, as well as respond to recent international developments.
The statement condemned Israel’s expulsion of the UN Secretary-General, calling it a further example of Israel’s disregard for international law.
The council also reiterated Türkiye’s solidarity with Lebanon, pledging to stand by the Lebanese people and government against Israel’s aggressive actions.
It stressed the urgency of halting Israel’s efforts to extend the conflict beyond Palestinian territories, urging responsible actors, particularly the UN Security Council, to take immediate action.
