Türkiye’s National Security Council convened on Thursday.

Support for a two-state solution in Cyprus was emphasized in a 9–point declaration issued after the meeting held at the Presidential Complex under the chairmanship of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The declaration, which included the Cyprus issue, noted that peace, tranquillity and security have prevailed throughout the island for half a century thanks to the 1974 Cyprus Peace Operation carried out by Türkiye within the framework of international agreements.

It added that Türkiye as a guarantor country has indisputably confirmed the legitimacy and success of the operation before history.

“It was emphasized that our resolute stance towards the conclusion of a two-state solution based on the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriot people and the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) as an equal member of the international community will be maintained,” the declaration said.

“Türkiye will prioritize dialogue in the Aegean and the Mediterranean regions and will not allow its constructive approach to be exploited.”
