Türkiye’s women’s volleyball team defeated Serbia in a five-set epic to clinch their first-ever continental title at the 2023 CEV Women’s European Volleyball Championship final on Sunday.
It was a proud night for the Turkish nation as Türkiye defeated Serbia in a five-set epic match to win the 2023 CEV Women’s European Volleyball Championship title on Sunday.
The Turkish team, dubbed by fans the “Sultans of the nets,” won the final with the sets of 27-25, 21-25, 25-22, 22-25, and 13-15 at Brussels’ Palais 12.
Meanwhile, President Ersin Tatar congratulated Türkiye on winning the trophy.
In a message he posted on social media, Tatar said, “I would like to wholeheartedly congratulate the Turkish National Women’s Volleyball team, the “Sultans of the nets” for winning the CEV Women’s European Volleyball Championship.”
Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu also congratulated Türkiye.
“I congratulate the “Sultans of the nets’ who have made history as the best in Europe, bringing great pride to the Turkish nation on the 100th year of the Republic,” he said in a written statement.
Other state and government officials in the TRNC have also issued congratulatory messages.
