The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’s largest and current governing National Unity Party (UBP) marked its 49th  year in Turkish Cypriot politics.

The party has dominated the Turkish Cypriot political scene for five decades, having been first founded on October 11, 1975, by the late Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş.

However, a reception planned for this evening in Lefkoşa was postponed to a future date due to ongoing efforts in parliament to elect a new parliamentary speaker.

Announcing the postponement, UBP Secretary-General and Gazimağusa MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu said, “Due to the prolonged work of the Republic’s Assembly, we have decided to delay the UBP anniversary celebrations planned for this evening. We will announce the new date to the public in the coming days.”
