The National Unity Party’s (UBP) General Secretary and Gazimağusa MP Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu condemned the attempts of the Greek Cypriot Football Federation of South Cyprus who tried to block the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation.

He reminded that an agreement on the status of football between the TRNC Football Federation and the Greek Cypriot Football Federation of South Cyprus was signed in 2015, the conditions of which were determined as temporary until a permanent solution was achieved in Cyprus.

Hasipoğlu noted that although the parties also agreed on the establishment of a joint management board for the implementation of the agreement, this form of management has never been established, and stated that they have sadly witnessed another attempt by the Greek Cypriot Administration to block the agreement.

He strongly condemned the statement of the President of the Greek Cypriot Football Federation Giorgos Koumas that they will never allow the status of football in Cyprus to change and the Turkish Cypriot youth to open up to the world.
