The General Secretary of the National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu on Tuesday said that the Turkish Cypriot people will never give up its statehood and will take its rightful place in the international arena.

Hasipoğlu was evaluating issues on the agenda during a television program he attended.

According to a press statement issued by the UBP, Hasipoğlu said that the recognition of the Turkish Cypriot peoples’ sovereignty was the only way for the TRNC to take its rightful place in the international arena.

“If the Greek Cypriot side thinks that it will get what it wants through unilateral steps rather than reaching an agreement with us on the basis of two states with sovereign equality then it will soon understand that it is wrong. We will also continue with our hydrocarbon explorations with motherland Turkey. We will continue to defend our rights on land and at sea along our sovereignty rights on the island of Cyprus,” Hasipoğlu noted.

The UBP General Secretary also evaluated the latest Navtex issued unilaterally by the Greek Cypriot side.

“The Navtex issued by the Greek Cypriot side is illegal. We as the TRNC people have been living on this island as a sovereign people since 1571. This is a struggle for sovereignty. We established our state in 1983,” he said.
