UBP Gen. Secretary hails Üstel’s visit to Baku as historic

The General Secretary of the governing National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu has said that Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s visit to Azerbaijan was a historic visit in regard to ongoing efforts to promote the recognition of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

He said that efforts to place the TRNC in its deserved place within the international community will continue.

Speaking to BRT on Thursday morning, General Secretary of the ruling National Unity Party (UBP) Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu described Prime Minister Ünal Üstel’s visit to Baku as a historic development.

He said Azerbaijan was a powerful country and that the Turkish Cypriots were an integral part of the Turkic world. “We always see ourselves as three states, one nation,” he said.

Hasipoğlu explained that within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between the UBP, the Justice and Development Party (AKP), and New Azerbaijan Party, all committees of the three parties will collaborate more closely.

Pointing to the significance of Üstel’s visit to Azerbaijan for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to obtain its deserved place on the international platform, the UBP General Secretary stressed the need for a collective effort from political parties, civil society organizations, parliament, and the president.

“We must fight this battle together, and we will take the place we deserve,” he added.

Concerning domestic developments, Hasipoğlu said that the TRNC was on a positive trajectory despite the challenges it faced.
