The United Nations has expressed concern over the opening of Maraş and called on the sides to shy away from taking steps that will increase tensions on the island, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dujarric said that the UN is closely following the developments in Maraş and is very concerned.
The UN’s position on Maraş has not changed said Dujarric and added that they are taking into account the UN Security Council decisions.
“The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is calling on sides to avoid any unilateral actions that could trigger tensions on the island and undermine the return to dialogue or the future success of talks” said the UN Spokesman.
The UN chief also called on all parties to resolve their differences through dialogue and reaffirmed his readiness to bring them together, the spokesman added.
