The United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights (HCHR) Volker Türk made evaluations on the Cyprus report within the scope of the 52nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Noting that the current situation in Cyprus continued to affect the rights of people across the island, Türk called for ‘dialogue and cooperation’ to both sides in Cyprus.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk called on the two sides in Cyprus to develop dialogue and cooperation in order to ensure that all citizens on the island enjoy their human rights equally.
Türk made assessments on the Cyprus report within the scope of the 52nd Session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Noting that the current situation in Cyprus continued to affect the rights of people throughout the island, he stated that the negative socio-economic impact of the war in Ukraine and the Covid-19 pandemic continued to affect economic, social and cultural rights throughout the island.
Noting that he appreciated the efforts to improve the human rights of all people living in Cyprus despite the difficulties, Türk called on all parties to develop dialogue and cooperation in order to advance a just, lasting and peaceful solution, ensuring that all citizens on the island enjoy their human rights equally.
The 52nd session, chaired by the Permanent Representative of Czech Republic to the UN Geneva Office Ambassador Vaclav Balek, will end on 4 April.
