The Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, who is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on Wednesday to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road Cloverleaf Junction was received by state and government officials.
Uraloğlu was received separately by President Ersin Tatar, Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı before attending the foundation laying ceremony along the intersection of the Lefkoşa-Girne dual carriage way-Lefkoşa northern ring road.
Speaking during his meeting with President Ersin Tatar, the Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu expressed his pleasure at being in the TRNC, stating, “Whatever Cyprus needs, and whatever task falls upon us, we will fulfill it together, God willing.”
He also emphasized that his team is present in the TRNC to continue their joint projects, noting that they have previously built roads together and will continue to invest.
Highlighting the importance of investments in the context of the “Blue Homeland,” Uraloğlu mentioned that they have been working on ship traffic management services and aim to enhance Cyprus’s strategic position once these initiatives are implemented.
For his part, President Ersin Tatar stated that the TRNC has reached a point where it should be recognized, calling for the easing and lifting of embargoes and isolations.
He reiterated that the international community now sees two separate peoples and two separate states in Cyprus and that their goal remains the happiness and welfare of the people.
President Tatar also stressed that their objective in this region is to move forward with sure steps towards the future, in unity with motherland Türkiye in line with the Blue Homeland doctrine.
Following his visits to state and government officials, the Turkish Minister attended the groundbreaking ceremony that took place at the foundation laying ceremony along the intersection of the Lefkoşa-Girne dual carriage way-Lefkoşa northern ring road where the cloverleaf junction will be built.
The latest project funded by the Turkish government aims to divert transit traffic away from the city centre.
This will facilitate smoother traffic flow within Lefkoşa and improve connectivity between Lefkoşa and other major areas, including Gazimağusa, Güzelyurt, and Girne.
The new cloverleaf junction will be located between the Girne Overpass Junction and the Alayköy-Kanlıköy connection road.
The continuation of the Lefkoşa Northern Ring Road is designed to be 4,600 meters long with a platform width of 23 meters, adhering to the standards of a divided highway.
The project includes a total of five junctions: four modern roundabouts and one grade-separated junction, aimed at enhancing traffic efficiency and safety.
