Üstel issues March 8 International Women’s Day message

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel expressed his happiness at the active role of women in social, economic, and political fields.

He said the government was making every effort to ensure that our women look confidently to the future and live in comfort and security.”

In his message issued to mark International Women’s Day, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel emphasized the importance of March 8th as a symbolic international day in the struggle for women’s rights.

“We are pleased to see that our women are increasingly playing an active role in social, economic, and political fields, as well as in scientific research, art, and business life, and making significant contributions to our society,” he said.

“Like in any society, women also have an important place in the Turkish Cypriot society. Throughout our history, the Turkish Cypriot woman has shared every responsibility in every stage of life and has inscribed her name in history with her courage in every stage of the struggle-filled history journey of the Turkish Cypriot People. The struggle our women have waged for their families and society, the efforts they have made throughout their lives, and the roles and duties they have selflessly taken on are always commendable,” Üstel said.

He added that it was their greatest duty as the government  to ensure that our women participate in all areas of life on equal terms, to protect and improve women’s rights, to prevent violence against women, and to ensure that women live in society without facing any discrimination.
