Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that the Law on Prevention of Laundering Proceeds of Crime has been in force and implemented since 2007.

The premier made the statement in response to allegations that money laundering is taking place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and that nothing is being done about it.

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel issued a written statement regarding money laundering allegations and called on the public to be at peace regarding the accusations as the government is on duty and fulfilling its responsibilities.

Responding to accusations that money laundering is taking place in the country and that there is no fight against this, Prime Minister Üstel emphasized that the country is in cooperation with international organizations in the fight against crime and criminals.

Stating that ignoring the struggle carried out together with all institutions and organizations is a step of defamation against the country, the Prime Minister noted that they would never allow the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus to be defined as a country that shelters criminals.
