The Cyprus Vakıflar Administration has published the study titled “Maps of Cyprus during the Era of Sultan Abdul Hamid II.”

According to a written statement from the Vakıflar Administration, the book prepared by Prof. Dr. Soyalp Tamçelik and Mustafa Kemal Kasapoğlu, is another important contribution to the cultural history of the Turkish Cypriot people.

The statement said that the 15 independent maps compiled in the book, which were created in 1878 and revealed for the first time, were obtained by combining 27 maps of various sizes.

It also noted that these handmade maps, which were drawn in 1878 when the island of Cyprus was rented to the British, were found to be completely accurate, increasing their scientific value.

The statement emphasized that these maps were the most detailed and scientifically accurate maps created after the conquest, highlighting the depicted waterways, dams, military buildings, sea and land routes, natural harbors, underground resources, fortification positions, and urban development activities.
