President Ersin Tatar attended the opening of the VI International KAYES Congress organized by the Eurasian Socio-Economic Research Association in cooperation with the Ankara Social Sciences University’s Northern Cyprus Campus under the title  “Eastern Mediterranean Vision of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus: Economic and Political Reflections.”

In his speech at the congress, President Tatar pointed to the importance of human resources in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and emphasized that the results of the congress will contribute to the scientific resources.

He stated that Turkish Cypriots, who embrace Kemalism and attach importance to education, established the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with the support of Türkiye, which supports the national cause in Cyprus.

Explaining that the TRNC is a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean and in the southernmost part and has a great geo-strategic and geo-political value, the President emphasized that there is a great value in the blue homeland as well as on land.

Pointing out that Türkiye is an important energy corridor, Tatar said that the natural resources have great economic and political value as well as security in the region where they are located, and therefore the status of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has increased in terms of economy as well as security.

Stating that the Greek-Greek Cypriot duo wants to encircle Anatolia by making Cyprus a Hellenic island, Tatar stated that the Turkish Cypriots will not give up their sovereignty rights.

Explaining that the Greek Cypriot side does not want an agreement on the basis of equality and this has been proven in the official negotiations that have taken place for years, President Tatar stated that they want to break the Turkish Cypriots spiritual, national and economic ties with Türkiye by saying “Zero troops, zero guarantees” within the European Union.

Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriots is the founding partner of the Republic of Cyprus, President Tatar stated that the 1960 founding treaties included that there are Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in Cyprus.

Noting that the peoples have the right to self-determination, President Tatar said that the inherent sovereignty right, which is at the basis of politics, will be used and that if there is to be an agreement, it will be realized with the cooperation of two equal sovereign states.

“If there is no future in a place, there is no investment there. Those who are aware of the potential as a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean are investing” said Tatar and drew attention to the importance of the Turkish-Greek balance in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“For this reason a two-state solution is important” said Tatar.
