The Turkish Embassy in Lefkoşa organized a reception on Wednesday in honour of the 30th of August Victory Day.

President Ersin Tatar, Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, the Head of the Supreme Court Narin Ferdi Şefik, 2nd President Mehmet Ali Talat, 3rd President Derviş Eroğlu, Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Peace Forces Command Sabahattin Kılıç, military officials, and numerous other invitees attended the reception hosted by Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, and took place at the embassy’s garden.

Addressing the reception, Turkish Ambassador Feyzioğlu, said that they once again experienced the rightful pride of the glorious Turkish army, born from the heart of the noble Turkish nation, achieving victory in Dumlupınar on August 30, 1922.

He also noted that August is known as the month of victories in Turkish history.

“In August 1922, in Dumlupınar, we once again proved that Anatolia belongs eternally to our nation. This epic victory not only ensured a decisive military outcome for our War of Independence but also paved the way for the establishment of our Republic under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. This year, we are celebrating the 100th anniversary of our Republic with great enthusiasm” Feyzioğlu stated.

“This year, under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Türkiye is celebrating its centenary with great enthusiasm. Let it be known that in the world’s most critical region, a game cannot be played without Türkiye. Let it be known that in the Eastern Mediterranean, there are two independent and sovereign Turkish states that will exist eternally: the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Two states, one nation. They will always, under all circumstances, live together forever. We will never forget the unfortunate day of the signing of the Sevres Treaty. We will not forget so that this dark page of history does not repeat itself” the Turkish Ambassador stressed.

Feyzioğlu, who said that the Turkish nation could not be uprooted from the sacred homeland in the National Struggle, said that they would never accept the yoke over the country and that this was proven to the world with the 30 August victory.

“It is no coincidence that the doors of this paradise island were opened to the Turkish nation in August 1571, and in August 1974, our soldiers and mujahideen proved to the world that this time the Turkish Cypriots could not be torn from their homeland. Our stance and determination will be the same in the face of new Sevr attempts” he added.

In his speech, Feyzioğlu also referred to the major earthquake disasters that occurred this year, saying, “Under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, our state and nation became one heart. I commemorate all our people and our angels who lost their lives in the earthquake with mercy.”

Feyzioğlu paid tribute to Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms, our heroic soldiers, Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for freedom and existence, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, with gratitude on the 101st anniversary of the victory of the 30 August Great Offensive.

“I commemorate all our martyrs and our veterans who have passed away with mercy. Happy 30 August Victory Day. How happy is the one who says I am a Turk” Ambassador Feyzioğlu said.
