The police have issued a warning after four counterfeit $100 U.S. dollar banknotes were found in circulation in Lefkoşa, urging the public to remain vigilant.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, an individual was caught today at a casino in Lefkoşa attempting to use $400 in counterfeit notes, each in $100 denominations.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered an additional $1,100 in counterfeit $100 bills in the suspect’s possession, bringing the total to $1,500.
Police suspect that some of these counterfeit notes may have already been circulated. Institutions and individuals, including banks, currency exchange offices, financial organizations, markets, and anyone handling cash transactions, are urged to be cautious, particularly with $100 U.S. bills bearing the identified serial numbers.
The public is also advised to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the nearest police station immediately.
