Date Added: 11 March 2025

The “Waste Star Sorting” project is being launched.

As part of the project, household waste sorting training will be provided at Karşıyaka, which has been designated as the pilot region.

The press was informed about the project in the pilot area.

In collaboration with the Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality and the Karşıyaka Culture and Arts Association, the “Waste Star Sorting” project is being implemented with the goal of sorting household waste at the source.

Within the scope of the Civil Growth Project, funded by the European Union, household waste sorting training will be provided at Karşıyaka Primary School and 67 households in the Karşıyaka Village, the designated pilot area.

Metal, plastic, and paper household waste will be collected in three separate containers distributed to these households.

The sorted waste will be transported to a sorting centre financed by the LAÇ Municipality, where it will be weighed.

The data obtained from the weighing process over three months will be compiled into a report. Subsequently, the Waste Star project will be expanded across the entire district.

The Vice President of the Karşıyaka Culture and Arts Association and coordinator of the Waste Star Project, Cemaliye Kavani, provided information about the initiative.

Expressing their happiness in launching another project that contributes to sustainability, Kavani stressed that the project’s success depends on citizens adopting the habit of sorting solid waste.

EU Project Manager Orhan Atasoy stated that the Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality has set a precedent in the country by implementing on-site household waste sorting.

Atasoy noted that, along with the waste inventory, a foundation will be established to expand the project within the Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality boundaries and to benefit from various grant programs.

Also speaking, the Mayor of Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality Fırat Ataser stressed that their goal with the project was to reduce household waste to zero and implement on-site waste sorting.
