Date Added: 26 April 2024

President Ersin Tatar on Thursday attended the opening of the Workshop on the Effective Use of Water in Agricultural Production in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Addressing participants at the event, President Ersin Tatar highlighted the significance of the water flowing to the TRNC from Anatolia since 2015, which has been crucial in meeting the country’s needs.

Tatar discussed the process and method of realizing the Water Project, stating that the project is the first of its kind in the world.

He stressed the need to protect local resources and prepare for unexpected situations in the future, noting that water will become more valuable than oil one day.

The president also highlighted the importance of Güzelyurt, a region rich in resources, especially during the pandemic, and called for the protection of water resources in food production.

He also mentioned that after consultation with Ankara, they had proposed sharing the water with the Greek Cypriot side, but that this proposal had been turned down on numerous occasions.

The workshop will last for two days.
