President Ersin Tatar on Monday evaluated the signing of the State Partnership Program between the Greek Cypriot Administration and the National Guard of the US State of New Jersey.

Stressing that this agreement will not contribute to efforts to solve the Cyprus issue, but will further encourage the Greek Cypriot Administration, the President warned the Greek Cypriot leadership. “Our people should rest assured.

We will respond with the support of motherland Türkiye to any moves that will disrupt the balance of defence and threaten the life and property of our people on the island,” Tatar said.

Evaluating the signing of the State Partnership Program between the Greek Cypriot Administration and the National Guard of the US State of New Jersey on Monday, President Ersin Tatar said the move will not contribute to the resolution of the Cyprus issue, but will further embolden the Greek Cypriot Administration, which continues to adopt an uncompromising stance.

The president also pointed out that the aforementioned military agreement had the potential to stir tensions in Cyprus and the region at a time when global security dynamics were being reshaped and regional and global stability was becoming important more than ever.

President Tatar as he had underlined during his meeting with the US Ambassador Julie D. Fisher, said it was essential for humanity to take steps that will serve stability rather than making moves that will have new regional and global complications.

“In addition to the United States’ lifting the arms embargo on South Cyprus, this attitude of the officials of the Greek Cypriot Administration, who interpreted the engagement of Greek Cypriot officers in the international training program and the signing of the Purchase and Cross-Service Agreement as a success story clearly reveal the true intentions of the Greek Cypriot leadership” he said.

“This mentality, which makes deputies and priests take part in shooting drills, instils hostility and hatred towards Turkish Cypriots in the education curriculum, and allows fascist and racist organizations into its parliament, cannot unfortunately be expected to contribute to achieving stability in Cyprus, the region and the world. The growing armament activities of the Greek Cypriot side are the clearest indicator of how indispensable the effective and de facto guarantee of motherland Türkiye is for the Turkish Cypriot people,” the president added.
