Minister of Public Works and Transportation, Erhan Arıklı, marked World Post Day on October 9 by addressing staff at a gathering held at the Post Office.

During his speech, Arıklı emphasized the need for increased financial backing for departments that contribute significantly to the state budget, in order to improve the quality of services they provide.

Speaking at the event, which was co-organized by the Post Office and the Cyprus Turkish Public Servants’ Union (KTAMS), Minister Arıklı congratulated the employees on World Post Day and expressed gratitude for their dedication.

The Undersecretary of the Ministry, Enver Öztürk, and KTAMS President, Güven Bengihan, also delivered speeches during the event.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, Minister Arıklı stated that revenue-generating departments, like the Post Office and the Vehicle Registration, Inspection, and Licensing Department, should receive more financial support to enhance their services.

“Our expectations for the 2025 budget are modest. The Post Office will address its shortcomings with the support of our motherland, the Republic of Türkiye, in the upcoming period. We will work closely with the union to ensure not only fast and high-quality service but also to provide our staff with workplaces that meet standards,” Arıklı remarked.

He also highlighted two major projects for the Post Office: the construction of a “Postal Operations Center” in the Lefkoşa Industrial Zone and the promotion of products made by women in rural areas through PTT AVM an online marketplace.

Undersecretary Enver Öztürk reflected on the evolution of postal services, noting, “Today, emails are sent in seconds, but letters used to take much longer to reach their destinations, holding much more value back then.” Post Office Director Yakup İskender spoke about the development of postal services, while KTAMS President Bengihan emphasized the need to resolve the Post Office’s shortcomings by next year’s World Post Day celebration, adding “We will collaborate with the department to ensure the public receives the best possible service.”
