Today is February 13, World Radio Day…

February 13, the founding date of the United Nations Radio which began its service in 1946, is celebrated as “World Radio Day”.

Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRTK) Director Meryem Özkurt issued a message on the occasion of “World Radio Day”.

In her message, the Director of BRTK Meryem Özkurt recalled that February 13, declared by UNESCO member countries in 2011 and accepted as an international UN day by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, is celebrated as “World Radio Day”.

“As the sole public service broadcaster in our country, the Bayrak Radio Television Corporation was established as Bayrak Radio in 1963 as a necessity to broadcast the voice of the Turkish Cypriot Community to its people and to the world. Founded by the heroes of difficult times to serve as a source of morale in difficult times, Bayrak Radio is proud to keep up with the times. With its live broadcast capability from all over Northern Cyprus and the world, and its rich program content, it continues to be the eyes and ears of the people,” she said.

Özkurt concluded her message commemorating those who contributed to the establishment and development of radio broadcasting at BRTK.
