The leader of the Rebirth Party (YDP) Erhan Arıklı, visited the Nation’s Party (MP) along with a delegation of senior party officials on Wednesday.

Speaking during the visit, Arıklı said that they had left behind past disputes with the Nation’s Party and announced that they had instructed the relevant authorities of their parties to discuss the issue of reunifying the two parties.

He referred to Zaroğlu as an “old compatriot” who had walked the same road with him in the past.

“Now is no longer the time for quarrels or disputes. The time has come to work together,” Arıklı said, adding that they had made good progress on bringing the two parties together.

Zaroğlu had set up the Nation’s Party after failing to win a seat in the last parliamentary elections.

Initially an MP from the YDP, Zaroğlu had run as a candidate from the National Unity Party (UBP) after a fall out with Arıklı.

For his part, the MP leader welcomed Arıklı’s olive branch, praising the YDP leader’s insistence and proposal on merging their respective parties.

He said that they will be discussing the matter within the party in the coming days before coming up with a decision.
