Zeki Çeler elected as new TDP leader

Zeki Çeler has been elected as the new leader of the Social Democratic Party (TDP).

Çeler was the only candidate running for the party’s leadership at the TDP’s 8th Ordinary Congress held on Sunday with the slogan “New hope, new era”.

TDP deputy Chairman Nevzat Özkunt, who delivered the opening speech, stated that the TDP has undertaken the task of protecting the country and that the new era is a turning point that will constitute the beginning of new hope.

Speaking at the Assembly, which was chaired by Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı, leader of the TDP Mine Atlı stated that she was proud to do this duty and said that they will never give up their goal of strengthening the party.

Delivering a speech after his election, Zeki Çeler said that the new period of the TDP is new hope for society and that they aim to make the country more prosperous.

Stating that they have turned a brand new page as of today, Çeler said, “We will continue our existence until the end. Our aim is to bring justice to this society and to make our lives more prosperous”.

The congress ended with the election of the 50-member Party Assembly and the members of the Audit and High Disciplinary Board.

Meanwhile President Ersin Tatar has congratulated Çeler, who previously served as a TDP MP in the Parliament and also served as the Minister of Labor and Social Security, on his election as the new leader of the TDP.

Stating that political parties are indispensable elements of democracy, President Tatar expressed his belief that TDP will serve the democracy of the country during Çeler’s term as party leader.
