Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre who is in Türkiye to take part in the Turkish States Parliamentary Assembly’s 12th General Assembly meeting met with the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TGNA) Mustafa Şentop within the framework of his contacts.

The two first had a tete-a-tete meeting, before moving onto a large meeting between their delegations.

A cooperation protocol was signed between the two countries afterwards.

Speaking at the meeting, the Speaker of the TGNA Şentop reminded that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was accepted as an observer member to the Organization of Turkic States in November 2022 with its constitutional name, adding that this was a significant and historic success.

Stating that immediately after this important development, the Assembly of the Republic accelerated its efforts to become an observer member of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries TÜRKPA, Şentop expressed the belief that a decision in this direction would be made by the assembly very soon.

He explained that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the Turkic nation, and drew attention to the necessity of taking part in platforms where Turkic States are present.

Stating that there will be important developments in the world over the next five years, Şentop said that it was their desire to see the international recognition of the TRNC.

Parliamentary Speaker Zorlu Töre for his part reiterated that the Turkish Cypriot people are an inseparable part of the Turkic nation.

Pointing out that the so-called Republic of Cyprus had been hijacked by fanatic Greek Cypriots with aspirations to unite the island with Greece, Töre said that the Turkish Cypriot people had resisted these attempts until motherland Türkiye had rushed to their aid in accordance with its rights as a guarantor power.

Arguing that the Greek Cypriots had destroyed all hope for reaching a settlement on the island, Töre noted that they will continue to promote and defend the existence of the TRNC.

Noting that the Turkish Cypriot youth and people continue to feel the negative effects of the unjust embargoes imposed on them, Töre said that the support provided by Türkiye has always given them strength and morale in the face of all these difficulties.

“We trust our motherland. If Türkiye is strong, the Turkish Cypriot people are also strong and the TRNC will continue on its way,” he said.

Töre also attended a reception given by the speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mustafa Şentop in honour of the heads of delegations in Türkiye to attend the 12th General Assembly of TÜRKPA.
