Prime Minister Üstel issues New Year message

Prime Minister Ünal Üstel assessed the year 2023 for Bayrak Radio Television Corporation (BRT) and conveyed messages related to the new year.

At the beginning of his speech, Üstel wished that the new year would bring peace, happiness, health, and prosperity to all people and the world.

In his special New Year’s message, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel said that 2023 has been a year of both great sorrows and significant achievements.

He mentioned the devastating earthquake disaster in Türkiye on February 6, which resulted in the loss of nearly 50,000 lives, expressing condolences to the victims of this shared tragedy and emphasized the additional pain caused by the loss of the “Champion Angels.”

He expressed the hope that such tragedies would not befall them again.

Wishing 2024 to be a year filled with joy, success, health, and hope for the entire nation, Üstel addressed the people and emphasized the strength of unity and solidarity during the challenging times.

He mentioned the upcoming legal battle starting on January 3 and stated that he, along with the prime ministerial team and parliamentary delegation, would be present in Adıyaman to follow the proceedings.

Emphasizing that the citizens’ cause is a common cause for everyone, Üstel pledged to pursue it relentlessly and ensure that the perpetrators receive the punishment they deserve.

Regarding the events of 2023, despite natural disasters and external economic challenges, Üstel highlighted significant reforms and major projects that were implemented in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

He discussed the positive effects of the Local Government Reform and proudly announced the completion and opening of the New Ercan Airport Project, which is expected to contribute significantly to tourism and the country’s economy.

Üstel acknowledged the historical decisions made during the year, including the signing of an agreement with Türkiye for the electricity interconnection project, which is considered the second-largest project of the century.

He anticipated that this project would enhance the energy security of the TRNC.

The Prime Minister also revealed plans for a 5-year development strategy, aiming for healthy and planned growth.

He emphasized the government’s support for various sectors, including social assistance for those in need, low-interest loans for farmers, and initiatives for the youth.

Üstel proudly announced accomplishments in infrastructure development, including progress on road projects, such as the completion of the Girne Western Bypass and the initiation of projects like the Lefkoşa Northern Bypass and Karpaz Road in 2024.

He emphasized the government’s commitment to earthquake preparedness and revealed ongoing efforts to strengthen and reconstruct buildings based on seismic tests.

Addressing the needs of the youth, Üstel highlighted the initiation of the first home loan program, providing housing opportunities for 262 young individuals. He promised to continue supporting young people with low-interest, long-term loans for housing.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged the global trend of digitalization and revealed the transition to 4.5G internet in the country. He also mentioned the upcoming nationwide transition to fiber optic infrastructure.

In conclusion, Ünal Üstel expressed confidence that 2024 would be an even more promising year.

He promised to address inflation, support production sectors, continue legislative work, and focus on larger projects in the coming year.
